    Sweers Island has miles of golden beaches, blue waters, a wealth of history, and a huge variety of bird life. A fishermans paradise, it offers enjoyment for the whole family. One of the Wellesley Islands, Sweers is located in the Southern Gulf, approximately 30 km off the coast, directly north of Burketown. The island is surrounded by acres of rock reef, with some coral, much of which has never seen a fishing line. You can fly-fish off the beach or troll from the boat. We cater for keen fishing groups and families. You're welcome to visit for the day or stay as long as you wish. There is also bird watching and bush walking.

    Located 27km south of Burketown on the Savannah Way and 67kim east of Doomadgee you will find Tirranna Springs Roadhouse.  They offer vaious accommodation options to suit tradesmen, professionals and visitor to the area in either ensuited rooms, or share bathroom facilities.  Camping is also available with limited powered sites and unpowered sites available in their campground.  More enticing for those wanting peace, quiet and space would be the secluded riverside bush camping options.

    Located above the picturesque Gregory River, Burke Shire Council has created a free camping area to enjoy. Free Council toilets and shower are located approximately 100m away and river is even closer. Council does not encourage camping in the Gregory River bank due to safety and hygiene issues.
